What a family organizer actually holds
Practice times and the school play. Who is picking up whom. The pharmacy list. The packing list for the trip, with addresses, flight times and the kids’ names on it. Taken together, a family organizer is a detailed diary of your household.
That is a good reason to ask who else can read it. Most organizer apps encrypt data on the way to their servers and store it in a form they can read. That is not end-to-end encryption.
The usual options
- Cozi: calendar, shopping and to-do lists, recipes and a meal planner. The free version shows ads; Cozi Gold removes them for $39 a year. Its privacy policy describes no end-to-end encryption and lists advertising identifiers among the data it collects. Cozi is owned by OurFamilyWizard.
- FamilyWall: calendar, lists, recipe box and a family messenger, with no ads. Premium is $4.99 a month. Its official pages make no end-to-end encryption claim.
- Apple and Google: shared calendars in iCloud and Google Calendar are not end-to-end encrypted. Apple Reminders are end-to-end encrypted only with Advanced Data Protection turned on.
Facts about these apps are as of October 2026.
The family circle in IronCircles
In IronCircles, the family gets its own circle, and everything in it is encrypted on your devices before it reaches our servers. Our servers store ciphertext they cannot open.
| In the family circle | |
|---|---|
| Calendar | Events with a place and time, Yes, Maybe or No RSVPs with guest counts, and one calendar across all your circles |
| Lists | Checklists everyone can tick off, with items assigned to a person and due dates; reuse any list as a template |
| Recipes | Ingredients, steps, prep and cook times, servings and a photo |
| Votes | Where to eat, which movie, which week for the trip |
| Credentials | The wifi password, streaming logins and the door code |
| Albums | Photos and video seen only by the family |
| Chat and calls | Group and one-to-one messages, voice memos, and voice and video calls |
There are no ads, and no business model built on what is in your calendar. Signup is a username and a password: no phone number or email, which also means children can join without handing over either.
What it does not do
IronCircles has no meal planner or budget tracker, and recipes do not turn into shopping lists automatically. If you need those, a dedicated organizer has more depth. IronCircles is for families who want the essentials in one place nobody else can read.
